Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful day, and eat a ton of yummy food! (Also, stay tuned for a pretty epic Black Friday sale roundup tomorrow!)
Tis the season to wear red as much as possible. Which has actually been hard for me, as I've realized I actually own very little red, minus shirts from my undergrad. TjMaxx to the rescue as usual. Ralph Lauren turtleneck, in the perfect shade of red, and on sale for $23. Such a win. Slowly but surely going to add more red in my wardrobe (and maybe sneak a few things from my mom's until it gets there ;))!
I don't know if everyone else has been seeing them, but I have been loving the beauty sets Sephora has been putting out lately! Some are a specific brand and you get t try out minis of their best sellers, and some are a specific product (like mascara) where you get minis of the store's best sellers! And the best part is that they're pretty affordable! Which means you can snag one as a gift for the holidays, and grab one for yourself too! ;)
I think I need to get them all....you know, to make sure I know what stuff is my favorite! ;) -Kylie
I am seriously loving houndstooth lately! It's such a great print can easily be mixed with other pieces. In this case, houndstooth of a different size! This tote From Lindsay Tia is seriously cute. Houndstooth on the outside and hot pink chevron on the inside. Perfect! Plus, she has different "purse-onalities" in her store, so everyone can find a print that fits them! Mine is City Chic, but you really can't go wrong...they're all gorgeous! I paired it with this super cozy and comfy sweater from Catch Bliss, and I was set!
one: It's here! The official trailer for Pitch Perfect 2!! It looks absolutely fabulous and I can't wait to see it and add aca- onto everything I say again.
two: Let's keep it rolling with the trailer theme. The live action version of Cinderella is set to premiere in March, and the trailer is positively magical. (Plus, the Prince is definitely not too bad to look at. He was on Game of Thrones if he's looking familiar to you and you can't place him.)
three: Straight No Chaser is an (amazing) a capella that originated at my undergrad (Indiana University) and they got together with Kristen Bell for a Christmas single this year. Perfectness has ensued.
four: OH MY GOODNESS THE CUTENESS. The little three year old's mom makes her the most amazing costumes to wear to Disney, and it's the greatest thing ever. I better get working on my sewing skills, because this will be my future daughter. If you wanna experience all the cuteness, head over to their instagram and watch all the little videos. I promise you won't regret it.
five: Let's end on an adorable Christmas note. Two cute kids lip syncing along to Idina Menzel and Michael Buble singing Baby, It's Cold Outside. Too adorable.
I totally have a love for and an obsession with coffee table books (is anyone really surprised?). I totally have plans in the future of having a huge bookcase filled with pretty books (think Mackenzie's awesome bookcase in her apartment). I've started my collection already (thanks mom and dad), and just like me, it's completely random. I have one that just pictures of puppies, then we jump to the first Kate Spade one, and then over to one all about Vera Wang and weddings. Not to mention my pretty extensive cookbook collection. I think the mix keeps it fun though! Below are some favorites of mine, and some I'm lusting over. It's definitely just as mixed and random as my current collection!
Something about colder weather makes me crave basic pieces and timeless looks. Bring on all the black sweaters! (I owe my grown-up black clothing obsession to my mom, who is the queen of rocking black.) Pairing it with another basic color, like gray, is my go to, and recently I've been loving adding a red lip! (Hello, lipstick obsession.) I also have been really loving on my wrap sweaters recently. All the coziness!
I'm pretty sure we're all netflix lovers at this point. How could we not be?? I do the instant and DVD, mainly because there are so many awesome things that are DVD only! (Yes, I realize this is netflix's way of getting more money, and yup, they totally have me sucked in.) But lately I've been watching more and more on instant. It's such a good study incentive! Finish readings and notes, watch an episode. Finish the study guide, watch an episode. I just gotta be careful not to get into marathon mode ;)
My latest obsession is The Borgias, a Showtime show that was on for three seasons starting in 2011. The way I've been describing it is Game of Thrones in Rome with the Pope. SO GOOD. I watched the first season over a couple days (don't judge, it's only 9 episodes), and I just love it. The characters are fabulous and I'm so sucked into the plot! Totally one of those shows where you find yourself talking to the characters during it (a whole lot of "No! No! Don't go in there! Run away!" kind of stuff). Plus, the Pope is the voice of Scar in the Lion King. Definitely reason enough to try it out.
So, that's my recent obsession, and now I want to know yours! What are your favorites and suggestions? My list is forever long, but I always like adding to it ;)
First things first, I'm hosting a giveaway with some amazing and awesome people on instagram. You don't want to miss this one! (Cough, cough the winner will get over $300 in goodies!) I am all about the big and fuzzy sweaters right now. SO cold. (Today we have a 100% chance of a rain/snow mix. How fun.) Cue bringing out everything fluffy and cozy and warm. Like this wrap sweater. It's actually thicker than it looks, and keeps me toasty warm without letting the window blow through the weaving! Perfection. Add some jeans (with leggings underneath, my fave trick) and some boots, and you're ready to go!
one: Let's start off with a sale! Loft is having their Friends & Family sale right now and has 40% off of everything with the code SHAREIT! How amazing? Shop some of my favorites below!
two: If you haven't watch Taylor's new video for Blank Space....what are you doing with your life?? Kidding, but you need to watch is ASAP. The song itself is fabulous (now know as Taylor's big middle finger to all who talk bad about her love life), but this video is just perfection. (Also, can I please have the wardrobe from this? And the boy?)
three: CALLING ALL GILMORE FANS. Amy Sherman-Palladino (the creator of the show), Alexis Bledel (Rory) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai) will be reuniting at the ATX Television Festival next year!! Maybe this means we'll finally get a movie? Yes? Please??
four: How things are made/how they work is so interesting to me! (Anyone else love Unwrapped on the Food Network??) I love this random complied list of how different things are made and work! (The Michael Jackson one will make you go "oooooohhhhh")
five: I have been LOVING everything Anna Kendrick is doing with Kate Spade (total girl crush). But this video is definitely my favorite. Could she be any cuter?
Have a fantastic weekend! (I'll be doing homework and continuing to marathon The Borgias on netflix #obsessed)
I absolutely love fun pajamas. Sure, it's easy to just throw on a shirt and some sweats to sleep in, but there's just something about a cute set of pj's! Totally makes you feel like you have your life together ;) (even if you're spending most of your time in pj's with all this cold weather #guilty). So I thought I'd do a roundup today of some of my favorite pajamas. They'd make great presents for the holidays, or you may just want to snag all the cuteness for yourself!
I think my favorite is the night shirt from J.Crew. What's your favorite? -Kylie
I am really loving the pastels in fall trend. I never really follow the colors rules of the seasons anyways (whoops), but I love that this is a "thing" now, and that pastels are filling the stores! Like my Old Navy jacket that I'm obsessed with, and you'll probably seeing a lot on the blog! And you guys know how in love I am with the Pixie pants at Old Navy, so I just had to get another pair! This plaid print is perfect, and I can't wait to pair it with red for the holidays!
jacket: Old Navy // sweater: BCBG (similar) // pants: Old Navy (plaid available in store) // shoes: Steve Madden
How do you feel about pastels in fall (and winter, since we're about to all freeze this weekend!)?
So, you know you wear your hair the same way all the time when people make a big deal over it being different. Aka me on Friday when I came to class with my hair curled. Little secret for anyone who totally doesn't have time in the morning to curl: curl it the night before and sleep on it. You get a less perfect curl and it actually turns out pretty great. (Plus, I have super thick hair and it takes about an hour, or a little more. And I am not waking up an hour early for that!) Also, I am so obsessed with this sweater dress from Old Navy! Easily dressed up or down, and actually kept me pretty warm!
dress: Old Navy // jacket: Steve Madden (similar) // scarf: Pashmina // tights: Anne Klein // socks: Urban Outfitters (similar) // boots: Jessica Simpson (similar)
Hand me downs aren't always the best thing. Unless of course, your mom decides she has a cashmere sweater that she doesn't wear anymore and asks if you want it. That's a fantastic hand me down! I paired it with a leather skirt and patterned tights for some fun, and my new favorite jacket from Old Navy. Can you guys tell yet that I love pairing pink and black together?
jacket: Old Navy (25% off until Tuesday!) // sweater: Charter Club (similar) // skirt: Forever 21 // tights: Anne Klein via Marshalls (similar) // boots: Jessica Simpson (similar) // necklace: gift (similar)
two: So if you don't already know, there's a Starbucks secret menu (which actually isn't created at all by Starbucks and probably makes baristas everywhere hate you). Buuuuut, this list of drinks is just too fun. Plus, it gives you the actual makeup of the drink, so you can just ask for that instead of using the name which probably isn't known by most of the baristas. (I can't wait to try the Candy Cane Frapp!)
three: 50 people (young and old) are asked what one thing they would change about their bodies. The difference between the kids responses and the adults responses is amazing.
I don't know what it is about this week, but it seems like everyone is super stressed out, including me. Friends in class, my whole clinical group, and blogger friends. Are we just all having a collective bad week? So I thought I'd take a little pinterest quote break today, one of my favorite things to do, and share some of my favorites! Here's to hoping we all have better days.
Anyone else love the movie What A Girl Wants? You know, the one with Colin Firth and Amanda Bynes, before she went absolutely crazy. One of my favorite movies. The part I'll always remember is when she's in the canoe with the hot British guy and he asks her, "Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?" I just love that quote! I think all of us were born to stand out in our own ways, and I totally love to stand out with my fashion. Which for this post, means mixing bright colors and bold patterns. One of my favorite combos! Also, how awesome is this pumpkin that my dad carved? I think he could have a career as a pumpkin carver! ;) (also, all photo cred goes to him, as usual when I'm home!)
