Blush and Army Green

It is finally starting to feel like spring around here! (Although it's supposed to snow on Friday...but we're just going to ignore that little fact.) Whether it's warm or not, I've definitely started whipping out the more "spring-y" colors. And my favorite combo right now is blush pink and army green. I just love the look of them together! Add in bright white jeans and the perfect RayBans, and I am totally set. Anyone else just tired of dark winter colors right now? Especially when the sun is ACTUALLY out and everything is bright?

4 Bloggers Who Inspire Me

I think it's incredibly important to follow bloggers who you admire and feel inspired by. If I hadn't been following a couple of these blogs, I wouldn't have even started a blog myself! I immediately gravitate toward kind, fun and real people, and these four ladies have been at the top of my follow list for years now. I hope you're inspired by them as I am!

Carly from The College Prepster: The College Prepster was the very first blog I ever followed, and is the blog that made me want to start my own. Not only does she always post amazing content, I instantly admired Carly as a person. She's always incredibly kind, and her openness in her posts about her life made me take to her immediately. She made me feel, as a reader, that I wasn't the only one going through certain things, like anxiety and confidence issues. I read her blog every day, follow all her social media, and I'm always thankful for Carly and her posting.

Julia from Gal Meets Glam: Whenever I need fashion inspiration, Gal Meets Glam is the very first place I go. I'm usually a literal version of the heart eyes emoji as I scroll through her posts. Every outfit Julia wears is just so chic and feminine, that I immediately want to replicate it for myself. I officially become the annoying person shoving my phone in other people's faces, insisting that they look at this amazing outfit. I fell in love with Julia even more when I followed her on snapchat, and realized she's probably one of the kindest human beings.

Hallie from Corals and Cognacs: First things first, Hallie is an absolute badass. She's absolutely gorgeous and posts amazing outfits, and then you find out that she's this epic Soul Cycle instructor who can seriously kick some butt. (Seriously though, next time I'm in Chicago I am TOTALLY signing up for her class.) I love reading her posts about her journey to become an instructor, and even if she doesn't mean to, she seems to give me motivation when I need it the most. Add in some awesome outfit posts and hilarious snaps on snapchat, and Hallie quickly became one of my favorite bloggers.

Krista from Covering the Bases: I seriously love Krista. Her outfit posts are always amazing, and what I love is that they're outfits I would totally wear in my life. I would definitely raid her closet if I had the chance ;) Plus, she's hilarious. I love following her on Twitter (especially on Bachelor nights) and on snapchat, because I know she's probably going to make me laugh. She just is one of those people who you immediately want to be friends with, so you're warned!

I hope you've enjoyed my gushing over my favorite bloggers who inspire me daily.
Which bloggers inspire you? I would love to know!

Weekly Roundup

one: This adorable 3 year old named Brielle can recite the entire periodic table. Oh, and she knows the presidents, all the states and capitals, and the countries in Europe and Africa. I....think I need to go do some studying.

two: 13 hilarious winners of the Comedy Wildlife Awards. Because of course this is an actual award.

four: I absolutely love when acts of kindness go viral. This bus driver is just such a sweet guy, and I love how everyone is making sure that it is known!

Have a fun weekend! (And stay warm if you're going to be experiencing negative windchill like me!)

Valentine's Day Cherry Donuts

I love Valentine's Day for pretty much two reasons. Candy and treats! Yummmm. I mean, who doesn't love candy hearts and chocolate, right? So I knew I had to do a Valentine's Day baking post, like last year's Red Velvet Brownies. This year I went the donut route, and the came out pretty darn good! Added some pink and red sprinkles, and they were set to go!

Valentine's Day Cherry Donuts (recipe from Shugary Sweets)

ingredients:
For the Donuts:
  • 2 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 15 maraschino cherries, chopped
For the Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • sprinkles

directions:
  1. In mixing bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Mix until combined. Add in eggs, vanilla, milk and melted butter. Mix thoroughly. Fold in chopped cherries.
  2. Pour batter into a ziploc bag, snip off the corner of bag. Pipe into greased donut pans. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool in pans 5 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.
  3. For the frosting, heat cream in small saucepan until just before boiling. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Add more cream (or powdered sugar) until desired consistency.
  4. To frost donut, dip cooled donut into glaze. Set on wax paper, apply sprinkles immediately (if desired), and allow to set (about 15 minutes) before eating. Enjoy!

Perfect timing to whip some up before Sunday!

Two Year Blogiversary

Today is a very special day. Today we celebrate the two year blogiversary of Dress in Sparkles! Wooooooo! What started out as a little hobby to take away the boredom of required classes has turned into more than I ever could have hoped for. It turned into my second job, and something that I absolutely love doing! I've gotten to meet amazing people, work with fantastic brands, and make great friends. And as cheesy as it sounds, I've also learned a lot about myself. The blog has definitely forced me to come out of my shell, and be more confident with what I'm doing.

I want to thank each and every one of you for visiting and reading my blog over these past two years. I wouldn't have gotten this far without your support, and I truly appreciate! I look forward to the next two years on Dress in Sparkles, and the next two after that, and so on... ;)
