weekly roundup

one: Starting on a serious note today. My friend's dad was in a terrible accident two weeks ago, and even though he awoke from his coma when the doctors didn't think he would, he's still in very critical condition. If there's anything you can do to help, I know she and her family would be beyond grateful. Here's the link for the gofund page that was set up by her dad's co-workers.

two: Now we need a laugh. I was laughing so hard that I was crying while watching this! I don't know if any of this ever actually made the air, but I'm so glad they released this video!

three: I'm so excited for Into The Woods! It's not my favorite musical in the world (the first act is better than the second in my opinion), but how could someone not be excited with the amazing cast they assembled? I'm just excited to see Chris Pine sing with his magical prince hair. Watch this video which is like a cool mashup of the trailer and some behind the scenes, and be as excited as me.

four: IT'S ALMOST TIME! Mockingjay Part 1 comes out on Thanksgiving and I'm so excited (can you tell I get excited by a lot?). My family has a tradition of seeing a movie on Thanksgiving, and you better believe we'll be seeing this! (Everyone in my family read the books!) They finally released the "official" trailer, and I totally have goosebumps!

five: Fast food workers tell you what food you should never order. Most of them made sense, but hearing the details made it even grosser for a lot of them!

Have a fun Halloween weekend!

dead men tell no tales

It's almost Halloween! Even though I'm not going out this year, and will spend most of my day tomorrow in class and then driving home for the weekend, you can bet I'll be wearing a Halloween theme outfit! Like this one! This shirt is one of my faves from Cakeworthy (aka the best place to find Disney themed shirts that are unique), and it's always fun to see how many people recognize this phrase! (If you don't know, it's a phrase from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney...and I believe they say it in one of the movies too!).

Anyone know what the phrase was before I said where it's from?

leather and deals

There is something about wearing a leather jacket that makes you feel like you can kick some serious butt! Anyone else with me on that? The fact that almost everything in this outfit was a serious deal makes it awesome too. The necklace was an extra 60% when I got it, the jeans are from TjMaxx and were under $30 (and fit like a dream), and the sweater is also from TjMaxx (French Connection!) and was half off the original price! And the leather jacket. Ohhh, the leather jacket. Probably one of my mom and I's best deals to date. Originally over $400. And by combining all kinds of sales and coupons, we snagged it for a little under $100. We bought it four years ago, and totally still brag about the deal! Now, onto the butt-kicking outfit!

cupcake couture

These are definitely one of my favorite pairs of shoes. I just never get to wear them that often because, you know, over the knee high heeled boots aren't too great for walking all around campus. And they may look silly with my scrubs. (every time I show my mom a pair of heels that I like, her immediate response is "those will look great with your scrubs". #nursingstudentlife). So it's fun getting to incorporate them into a blog post! Also, isn't this the cutest top? My mom got it for me forever ago because I'm such a master baker of cupcakes (but really, I am! ;)) and I love it paired with a blazer!

coral and navy

Coral and navy is such an unexpected color pairing, but one that totally works! Especially when you do it with a neutral top. But about these coral shoes, it's totally one of my favorite fashion stories (in a nerdy way. you'll see). So we were at the mall one day and I fell in love with the shoes and ended up getting them (thanks parents). It should be added here that I was a huge glee fan (you know, back when the show was good and they hadn't ruined it yet #bitter). This was right around the time the 3D concert movie was coming out, and I kept seeing pictures for it. And then I noticed that Dianna Agron (who plays Quinn, aka one of my fave characters) was wearing my shoes! Not going to lie, I squealed loudly and proceeded to tell everyone in my family (although their enthusiasm did not match mine). And now we are done with the nerd story...onto the actual outfit!

weekly roundup

two: I had multiple people tell me about this in the past week, so I just had to watch it. Ten bucks says you can't get through it without laughing! So hilarious!

three: I love pitbulls, and I'm a big supporter of the idea that a dog's personality greatly depends on the environment it's brought up in. Which is why I personally think that the reputations pitbulls get is so not fair. Here's an adorable video of pitbulls being mush balls to prove it.

four: A Disney resort in Hawaii? Um, COUNT ME IN! (Also, the version of A Whole New World in that video is amazing) (Also also, thanks Dad for sending me this link!)

Have a fun weekend!

polka dots and heels

As a future nurse, my "work week" attire is going to be scrubs, aka not something that is bloggable. However, that doesn't mean I can't make cute "office wear" into every day wear. I've always been someone who likes to be more dressed up (always suffering from freezing legs in the winter with my dresses and skirts!), so why not just bring all the cute outfits people get to wear at work into my normal wardrobe? Cute structured shirt, a longer skirt, heels...count me in. (for an actual work environment, I would probably add tights, lower heels and maybe a blazer!)

face wash miracles

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I've always had terrible face washing habits. I would go to bed with makeup still on, forget all about moisturizer, and just continued using a face wash even though it wasn't doing much for me. And I got by pretty okay with all of that...until this year. Stress breakouts galore! So I knew something had to change in my routine, and I had to make myself get some better habits. Which honestly, have worked miracles for me (we're talking my face clearing up after only a week!). So of course, I thought I'd share my little miracles with everyone! (PS this is not a sponsored post at all. I just had really great experiences with these, and thought I would share them!)
First of all, would be my Clarisonic. I finally jumped on the bandwagon, and it was a fantastic decision. You can actually feel your skin getting cleaner and healthier when you use it. My skin is so much brighter and just....nice now. I've been recommending it to everyone and anyone!

Second would be the face wash I switched too. The one I had been using just was not working for me anymore, and I was already using an Aveeno moisturizer, so I decided to just make the switch! And I am SO SO SO glad I did! I started using these last Sunday, and already my forehead has cleared up considerably and my skin just looks cleaner and feels moisturized.

morning: wash, moisturizer // night: wash, moisturizer

In the morning, I'm using a foaming cleanser meant for complexion clearing, along with a daily moisturizer (with SPF of course!). At night, I'm using a detox scrub along with a hydrating nighttime moisturizer. Can not say enough amazing things about all of these!

So if you're looking to change up your skin care routine, or are having similar problems to me, give these products a try!
Have you discovered any face wash miracles?

pears, plaid & sparkle

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was filled with lots of homework and grocery shopping (go to Trader Joes and get the pumpkin cinnamon rolls ASAP! SO good!). It is definitely starting to settle into consistent fall weather here. Which means lots of layering for me! I'm definitely not complaining, bring on the cooler temps! (I know I'll regret this when it's snowing and I have to go outside. Plus, everyone knows the cold isn't as fun once Christmas is over!)

weekly roundup

one: This little guy is the coolest person ever. Just watch.

two: IF YOU HAVEN'T READ OR SEEN GONE GIRL, DON'T CLICK THE LINK. MAJOR SPOILERS. Back when the book first came out in 2012, Gillian Flynn defended the ending of the book in an interview. And what she says really makes sense. (I'm one of those few who thought the ending was the perfect last twist!)

three: So normally with wedding videos, we see epic husband/wife or dad/daughter dances. This mother/son dance is the first I've seen, and it definitely rates pretty high on the epic meter! The wife's reactions in the background are also hilarious.

four: This is pretty darn cool. A dad took a picture of his son every day for four years, and put them all together in this amazing time lapse video. It's so cool to see all those changes happening at once!

five: Let's end with this video of a bulldog puppy trying to howl. Adorableness.

Have a fun weekend!

cozy blankets

Tis the season for curling up with cozy blankets! I am definitely a blanket lover, and I feel like I have a million in just my tiny apartment (okay, maybe more like 5 or 6, but you get what I mean). But that so doesn't mean I don't need more! You could always use some more cozy, cuddly blankets. Here are some of my picks!

My personal fave place for throws is the TJMaxx/Home Goods/Marshalls stores, because they have great ones for great prices!
What are your favorite places to find them?
