classic LBD

I think my favorite outfits tend to involve the classic little black dress. There is just so many ways you can style them, and they easily become the most versatile part of a wardrobe. There's always somewhere to wear an LBD! Today, I styled mine with a sparkly statement necklace and a contrasting coat. I love how the contrasting colors make each piece really pop and stand out!
(PS, a super fun giveaway is happening over on instagram!)

cinnamon roll cake

Starting the week off with another yummy recipe! It's so hard to stop baking once you get back into the swing of things and remember how much you love it! This cake is like a cinnamon roll mixed with coffee cake. So. Good. I'm sure it's meant to be just a dessert, but I think it's perfect for breakfast with a cup of coffee! ;)

Cinnamon Roll Cake (recipe slightly adapted from cookin' up north)

Cake:
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp.salt
1 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. milk
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter, melted

Topping:
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Mix everything together except for the butter. Slowly stir in the melted butter and pour into a greased 9x13 pan. For the topping, mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Drop evenly over the batter and swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 for 28-32 minutes.

Glaze:
2 c. powdered sugar (start by using 1 cup, and add more to your own preference!)
5 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients together and drizzle over the cake while it is still warm.

weekly roundup

one: Guys....I think Emma Stone's lip sync battle with Jimmy Fallon may have been beaten. Fallon had a show after the Superbowl and had Will Ferrel and Kevin Hart on. And did a lip sync battle. It. Is. Amazing. SO HILARIOUS.

two: The Genie and Aladdin from Aladdin the Musical got together with Alan Menken (aka Disney royalty) and did a little Disney medley. Perfectness ensues.

three: I think optical illusions are SO interesting to look at! So when I found this post of 25 of them by the artist Rob Gonsalves I had to share! Warning, you'll end up spending a whole lot of time just staring at them.

four: 21 cocktails you should learn to make in your twenties. So I have 7 1/2 years to learn to make all these. Challenge accepted. Also, reason enough to get a super cute bar cart of course! ;)

five: I actually found this after I wrote this post, but just HAD to add it in! It was a Saved by the Bell reunion on Jimmy Fallon this week, and it was amazing!!!!! They all still look amazing, and I would totally still date Zach and Slater.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

sweetheart rings

As much as I love a good statement necklace, simple jewelry is my absolute favorite. I love having my go-to, timeless pieces that I can wear every day. And thanks Irina Victoria Jewelry, I have some new rings to add to my collection

I love how simple and just pretty the rings are! I actually feel daintier just wearing them! I have the "I Heart You ring" c/o and the "Tiny Heart Quartet ring" c/o, both in sterling silver (they also come in gold!). They actually have a whole Sweetheart collection (love the "Tiny Heart Quartet bracelet" and the "Double Heart necklace"), which would all be perfect for Valentine's Day!

(I love this quote that came with the rings!)

Who else loves simple jewelry as much as I do?

red velvet brownies

As you all know by now, I love baking. LOVE it. So obviously I had to do a Valentine's Day baking post. And what could be better for Valentine's than red velvet? So I made red velvet brownies with a chocolate frosting that you will want to eat with a spoon! (obviously, I added Valentine's sprinkles as well because....any excuse to use fun holiday themed sprinkles!) And the best part? It's all SUPER easy to make. Score.

Red Velvet Brownies (recipe from Newlyweds Blog)

1 cup  unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 large eggs, at room temperature
2 oz red food coloring (optional)
4 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Butter and flour an 9 X 13 clear glass baking pan.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.  Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in food coloring (if not using food coloring add 4 T of water or milk) and vanilla, mix until the color is fully incorporated. Mix flour, cocoa and salt in a separate bowl.  Slowly add in the flour mixture being very careful not to over mix..  Do not over mix.  The batter will be very thick.
Remove the bowl from the mixer and stir up the batter with a rubber spatula once or twice just to ensure all of the flour has incorporated from the sides of the bowl and there isn’t anything stuck on the bottom of the bowl.  You’ll want one uniformly colored (red) batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-40 minutes. 35 minutes for a thin crust on top and gooey underneath.  Set aside to cool, cut into bars and serve.

Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting (recipe from Something Swanky)

12 ounce package semisweet (or any mixture of) chocolate chips
1/2 cup salted butter
8 ounces sour cream or Greek yogurt
4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Place the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 60 seconds, or until butter is melted completely.
Add the chocolate chips to the bowl and stir until chocolate chips are very melted. When you feel like the chocolate chips won't melt any more just from being in the warm butter, place the bowl back in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Remove and stir until chocolate chips are completely melted and smooth (nuke an additional 30 seconds if necessary).
Use an electric mixer to mix in the sour cream.
Add the powdered sugar a cup at a time and the vanilla extract, mixing well in between each addition.
Use immediately or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Warm in the microwave in 30 second increments for spreading after refrigerating.

valentine's day dresses

In my opinion, having a cute dress is totally necessary for going out on Valentine's Day. (Shocking, coming from a fashion blogger, right?) But it's always fun finding that perfect red or pink dress to wear out! I've done some searching and found some seriously cute (and affordable!) dresses that would be perfect for everything, from a romantic night out to a girl's night!

I would gladly take them all in my closet! ;) Which one is your favorite?
